The Maui Humane Society 2025 “Rescue Me” Calendar Contest will showcase Maui’s incredible firefighters and lifeguards alongside Maui’s beloved pets. In partnership with Hawaii Fire Fighters Association and Hawaii Government Employees Association, the goal of this calendar is to highlight the brave heroes of our community and the resilience of pets.

The 12 photos with the most votes will be featured as the main images for the 12 months of the 2025 calendar! All runners-up will be included on the back of the calendar. Each vote is only $1 (required minimum of 5 votes) and 100% of the proceeds benefit the pets of Maui Humane Society. Thanks to an anonymous donor, all gifts in August will be matched up to $50,000! That means the impact of your votes will go twice as far to provide our animals with shelter, veterinary care, food, and love.

The photo shoots were held at various locations all along West Maui. Locations include places such as Kahoma Valley, Lahainaluna High School, Hanakaoʻo Park, Mala Wharf, and more. Photos were taken by the award-winning Oahu-based photographer, Dana Edmunds, who donated his talent and services for this fundraiser.

Mahalo to the firefighters and lifeguards of Hawaii Fire Fighters Association and Hawaii Government Employees Association, Dana Edmunds, Sae Design Group, and the pet parents who participated in this collaborative fundraiser.

About Us

Maui Humane Society is the island’s only open admission shelter, accepting all animals in need. We care for more than 4,900 animals a year and offer high volume, low-cost spay/neuter surgeries to the public for owned pets. As a nonprofit organization, we rely on assistance from the community to carry out our mission: To protect and save the lives of Maui’s animals, accepting all in need, educating the community, and inspiring respect and compassion towards all animals.

In August 2023, wildfires burned through the towns of Lahaina and Kula on Maui. Maui’s firefighters fought the blazes, risking their lives to protect communities. For the days and months following, Maui Humane Society rescued and cared for more than 880 animals, and tirelessly worked to reunite them with their ‘ohanas or adopt them to new families. MHS’ teams reunited over 220 pets with their families, adopted over 220 animals to new families, treated over 1,500 non-shelter pets, and distributed almost 882,000 pounds of pet food. These collective efforts, alongside lifeguards, and other first responders and volunteers, saved human and animal lives, and showcased the importance of community solidarity during crises.

Your support and generous donations helped us reach these milestones, and it is only with your help that we can continue providing animals in need with lifesaving care.

Mahalo to the Maui chapters of Hawaii Fire Fighters Association and Hawaii Government Employees Association for their partnership in raising awareness for the needs of Maui’s animals. We are grateful for the chance to recognize the incredible work they do for the Maui community, and especially their heroic response to the Lahaina wildfires on August 8, 2023.
