Wiregrass Horse Rescue & Sanctuary, a Charitable 501(c)(3), was founded in 2013 after many years of rescue work. Since the beginning, we have rescued or assisted with over 250 livestock rescues in and around Alabama. We are 100% operated by volunteers which means that 100% of your donation goes DIRECTLY to the animals in our care. We have 65 acres of land, with approximately 25 pastured. We currently have a medical barn with 4 stalls, run in sheds in each of our pastures, and a covered arena.
What do we do? We work directly with local sheriff departments in livestock abuse and neglect cases. We provide this service for free; we do not get any government or federal funding. What does that mean? Our entire staff includes wonderful volunteers that take care of the rehab process, we have all animals vetted, and once they are cleared by our vet, they are placed for adoption.
