2026 Calendar of Superstar Pets Photo Contest

Show off your beloved pet in the 2026 SPCA Calendar of Superstar Pets!
The contest runs until July 31, 2025, and allows pet lovers the opportunity to upload digital photos of their beloved companions to appear in the 2026 SPCA calendar.

  • $25 donation photo entry fee, each entry gets one free 2026 SPCA Monterey County calendar. Entrants will receive their calendars in the mail by late November 2025. Just in time for the Holiday Season!
  • Photos should be horizontal (landscape, not portrait) 
  • All photos submitted will be considered for month winner photos, regardless of the number of votes. All other photos will be placed throughout the calendar.

  • The Grand Prize winner and four runners-up (based on votes) will receive publication and special recognition in our opening spread.

Photo submissions and votes require a minimum donation to support the animals and programs at SPCA Monterey County. Please see our rules for complete participant guidelines and eligibility requirements.
Prizes
The Top 5 winners will be determined by votes, but every entry - regardless of votes - will be considered for a Pet of the Month feature!

Grand Prize:

Your pet will get top billing as the cover star be AND be featured inside as a Pet-of-the-Month. If that isn’t enough, your pet will also get recognition in the opening pages of the calendar!

The SPCA has teamed up with a professional photographer to award the first place winner with a professional photoshoot for their beloved pet.*

  • The winner will also receive a beautiful canvas print of a selected photo from the photoshoot. 

  • 25 copies of the 2026 Pet Calendar to share with your friends and family!

* A new color portrait of your pet will be taken by a professional photographer in the Monterey Bay area before October 2025. This image will be used for the calendar cover. If a professional photo cannot be taken, the SPCA may consider a high-quality image provided by the winner. If the submitted photo does not meet cover standards, an alternative prize will be awarded.

The top five vote earners will also earn special recognition of their photo and pet in the calendar.
Rules
  • $25 donation photo entry fee, each entry gets one free 2026 SPCA Monterey County calendar. Entrants will receive their calendars in the mail by late November 2025. Just in time for the Holiday Season!
  • Photos should be horizontal (landscape, not portrait) 
  • The contest is open to pets of all species.
    • Your pet does NOT have to be adopted from SPCA Monterey County to be eligible to enter this contest.
  • Multiple pets may be included in one photo.
  • No people - photos must feature companion animals only.
  • Deceased pets may be entered into the photo contest; however, they are not eligible to win the calendar cover.
  • All photos must be in color- no black-and-white photos.
    • We cannot accept photos with digital overlays, photo stickers, doodles, or any copyrighted or professional photos.
    • Computer-generated images will not be accepted.
  • Dogs and cats wearing collars/ID tags and cats photographed indoors will receive the best possible consideration.
  • Once entered, photos may be used by SPCA Monterey County for print and marketing purposes.
  • Online entries must be submitted before July 31, 2025, at 3:00 PM PST.
  • Mail-in or in-person entries must be received by 3:00 PM PST on July 30, 2025, at SPCA Monterey County, 1002 Monterey-Salinas Hwy, Salinas, CA 93908. Photos will not be returned.
PHOTO SELECTION
  • Digital photos are recommended. Photos must be high resolution. Ensure all cell phone photos are taken at their highest resolution.
  • All photos submitted will be considered for month winner photos, regardless of the number of votes. All other photos will be placed throughout the calendar.
  • Photos should be horizontal (landscape, not portrait) 
VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITES
Encourage your friends and family to vote for your pet’s photo and help support SPCA Monterey County. The top photos with the most votes will win special prizes.

  • Votes are $1 each.
    • Once a photo is submitted, it will appear in the online gallery on SPCA Monterey County's calendar website and be open to the general public for voting. 
  • All votes for photo submissions will be tabulated and displayed online.
  • To vote:
    • Online: click on the Participate tab above.
      • The online voting period will end on July 31, 2025, at 3:00 PM PST.
      • All votes must be applied to selected photos by the conclusion of the voting period to be counted.
    • By Mail: Send votes to P.O. Box 3058 Monterey, CA 93942.
      • Votes by mail and phone must be received by the SPCA no later than July 30, 2025, at 3:00 PM PST.
      • Please include your full name, address, phone number, the pet names you wish to vote for, and your written request to apply your enclosed donation towards votes for them in the 2026 Photo Fundraiser.
    • By Phone: Call 831-264-5431 during business hours to vote with a credit card.
  • Donations can be made by check, cash, or credit card.
  • The ending time for the Photo Fundraiser will be determined by the host website's server, which will show prominently on the Photo Fundraiser website as a countdown clock on the last day of the fundraiser.
  • The photograph with the most votes (donations) at the end of the submission period will win the voting portion of the Photo Fundraiser.
  • All votes are donations to SPCA Monterey County and are fully tax-deductible as permitted by law. All donors will receive an emailed receipt for their contributions.
Frequently Asked Questions
HOW MUCH IS THE ENTRY FEE?
The entry fee is $25 per photo. This fee includes one copy of the 2026 Calendar (a value of $15!) that will be mailed to you in November 2025. You can make an additional donation during the entry process that will count as votes toward your submitted picture(s). All proceeds from contest entries and votes will go directly to support SPCA Monterey County's lifesaving programs and services.

You can enter as many as you want!

HOW DO I VOTE FOR A PET'S PICTURE?
Votes are $1 each, with a minimum donation of $5 for five votes. All votes are tax-deductible. Yes, you can vote for your own pet's photo (and as many times as you and your friends and family want!). You may allocate each vote to the same picture or multiple pictures.

How to vote online: To vote online, click on the Participate tab above. Search the pet's name you want to vote for, then click on the pet's photo. You will then be taken to the pet's page where you can cast your vote! The online voting period will end on July 31, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Donate a minimum of $5 for five votes. Those votes can then be cast for any submitted photo in one-vote increments.

Voters do not have to use all of the votes at the time of donation. When voters donate, they will be given the option of applying all of the votes to one photo, spreading their votes over various photos, or storing votes in their account. If a voter chooses to store the votes, the voter can log in to their account using their ID and password and vote at a later time. All votes must be applied to selected photos by the conclusion of the voting period to be counted.

How to vote by mail: Make your check payable to SPCA Monterey County. Include a note with the check noting the pet's name and owner's name for whom you are voting in the 2026 Calendar of Superstar Pets Contest. Please also include your name, address, and phone number in case we have any additional questions.

CAN I DROP OFF MY ENTRY OR VOTES AT YOUR SHELTER?
Entries including photo, entry form, and entry fee ($25) and votes may be dropped off in person no later than 3:00 PM PST on July 30, 2025.

We will mail calendars in November of 2025, just in time for the holidays!

HOW DO I ENTER THE CONTEST VIA MAIL?
If you're mailing in your photo, we can accept 4" x 6" prints in a horizontal format for design purposes. Mailed photos should be sent to the address below.
