What are Calendar Challenges?
To help your pet win more votes, we will be offering a variety of fun challenges and engagement events throughout the length of our photo calendar contest.
All calendar challenges for the 2023 photo calendar contest have been completed.
Past Challenges
Calendar Kick-Off Challenge
The
first 15 calendar entrants beginning at 8 a.m. on June 1 will receive
an additional 100 votes, just for registering! This calendar challenge is sponsored by our friends at the
Caudron Megary Blackburn Wealth Management Group.
Picture Yourself(ie) as a Social Media Star
(June 11 at 8 a.m. through June 12 at 8 p.m.)
Selfies are so popular on social media! Post about your pet’s calendar aspirations on Facebook or Instagram, and the 5 calendar contestants who receive the most Likes on that post between 8 a.m. on June 11 and 8 p.m. on June 12 will receive additional votes. You must tag #awlaselfie for us to be able to track your Likes. If you post on multiple accounts, we will count the one with the most Likes.
- Top Like Recipient - 250 votes
- 2nd-Most Likes Received - 150 votes
- 3rd-Most Likes Received - 100 votes
- 4th-Most Likes Received - 50 votes
- 5th-Most Likes Received - 25 votes
Lovely's Challenge
(June 15)
Lovely is Ms. October in our 2022 photo calendar. While Lovely’s human best friend had to say good-bye to her last year, her spirit lives on in the funds she raised to help animals in last year’s calendar event, and in so many of the animals who are registered this year. Her friend will nominate 15 entrants who embody some of Lovely’s special skills, including “FIERCE HUNTRESS” and "Creative Water Dish Management." Extra votes will be awarded by the end of the day on June 15.

(June 18 at 8 a.m. to June 19 at 8 p.m.)
A good selfie can bring in a lot of admirers! The 5 registrants with the most individual donors to their pets’ profile pages between 8 a.m. on June 18 and 8 p.m. on June 19 will receive additional votes, sponsored by the
Nellis Group.

- 2nd-Most Individual Donors - 200 votes
- 3rd-Most Individual Donors - 100 votes
- 4th-Most Individual Donors - 50 votes
- 5th-Most Individual Donors - 25 votes
Stitch's Selfie Stars
(June 22)AWLA alumni and calendar favorite Stitch may no longer be with us, but his sweet and generous nature continues to help animals in need across the community, like he once was. Stitch's family will select 5 calendar registrants that they think Stitch would have liked to receive 50 FREE votes in his memory.
Extra votes will be awarded by the end of the day on June 22.
Picture Yourself(ie) Saving More Lives
(June 25 at 8 a.m. through June 26 at 8 p.m.)The AWLA’s photo calendar contest raises funds to help animals across the community. The 5 pets whose selfies bring in the most funds raised by between 8 a.m. on June 25 and 8 p.m. on June 26 will be awarded extra votes, courtesy of our friends at the
Nellis Group.

Double Down Challenge (COMPLETED)
(June 29 at 6 p.m.)It’s your last chance to get your pet on the leaderboard to win fabulous prizes, including photo shoots, the calendar cover and even their face on the back of buses across Northern Virginia. Beginning at 6 p.m. on June 29, the Hoffman Town Center will be doubling votes, up to 250 votes per individual voter, until they have doubled $5,000 of votes.
