Poncha was rescued by the Oakland Animal Shelter early in 2012. She was completely traumatized (likely from some kind of abuse) and deemed unadoptable at that time. The director of the shelter took Poncha under her wing and nurtured her until they finally could try to find a home for her in 12/2012. My husband saw her photo, fell in love, and made me fly home early from a vacation so that we'd be first in line. We brought her home, and after 2 weeks of shivering with fear she fell in love with us (for us, it was love at first sight!). We brought her to trainings at the Oakland Animal Shelter as often as possible, and then she went on to get her Intermediate and Advanced Canine Good Citizen diplomas! She was also the 'Cover Girl' for the 2015 Oakland Animal Shelter Calendar. We take frequent long hikes and she loves all dogs (and most of them fall in love with her too!)......sadly, I lost my husband earlier this year; we both miss him terribly and Poncha is now my emotional support dog; she's terrific on planes, charming everyone as I go to/from LasVegas to Oakland monthly!
