Bernie charms everyone he meets with his giant pittie smile and his mismatched eyes. He's a big lug of a mixed breed, mostly American Staffordshire Terrier with a dab of American Bulldog thrown in. He adores all dogs and people, and he's sure they'll love him back. Bernie was found as a stray pup on the streets of Salinas and wound up in a Monterey shelter. A Bay Area rescue group picked him up from there, and he was fostered with several huskies and two small children before being adopted at 5 months of age by his forever family in October of 2016. Bernie tore ligaments in both his hind legs as a puppy and now has two bionic knees after surgery to stabilize his joints. His favorite off-leash excursions are the trails of Redwood Regional Park, the Albany Bulb, and Point Isabel. He can destroy toys, bones, and bully sticks faster than a wood chipper but has learned not to eat shoes or furniture. Bernie lives in Oakland with his human parents, Steve and Karen, and can often be found strolling in the Laurel district or around Lake Merritt.
