Get to Know the Pets and Heroes
Uni, a 3-month-old Shar Pei/Bully mix, was rescued on Moloka‘i and brought to Maui by her parents, who are now believers of “love at first sight.” One look at her wrinkles, beautiful gray coat, and striking blue eyes, and they were done for! Uni’s mom plans to train her to be a therapy dog. She loves learning new tricks, playing in the water, and getting as many cuddles and belly rubs as she can take.

Kaipo has been a lifeguard on Maui for 15 years at various towers, including Ho’okipa, Hanaka’o’o, and Kamaole I. He has had many dogs and horses, and considers them both to be his favorite animals. As a lifeguard, Kaipo enjoys helping people and being near the ocean.
