Lilo, a Basenji mix nearing 10-years-old, was initially adopted by her mom’s parents while she was away at college. When her mom moved back home to Maui, the two became inseparable. Lilo is now her mom’s shadow and protector. She loves zooming around the yard, finding and investigating sticks, giving the best heartwarming hugs, and cuddling up as the little spoon at bedtime.

Whiskey, a 4-year-old Terrier mix, was surrendered to Maui Humane Society when his former family could no longer care for him. What was meant to be a weekend foster in 2020 during the pandemic quickly became a permanent home, when he bonded with the resident dog, Lilo. Despite his quirky ear and mischievous antics like chasing geckos and performing squeaky toy symphonies, he's brought immense comfort to Lilo and brightens the spirits of his pack members daily.

Michael “Tex” is an Ocean Safety Lieutenant at Tower 3, Hanakao’o Beach Park in Lahaina. A 20-year veteran of the department, he and his team were on the water and involved in rescue operations on August 8, 2023 and the following days. He has a 14-year-old, floppy-eared Chihuahua/Beagle mix (Cheagle) named Lucy, and two outdoor cats, Shadow and Phantom. After beating Lymphoma cancer in 2024, Mike feels even more motivated to continue saving lives.
