The Mesabi Humane Society is celebrating its 40
th year of serving communities in northeastern St Louis County Minnesota. We deliver vital rescue and animal control services and provide medical care, sheltering, fostering, and adoption services for cats and dogs. Our animal control officers investigate animal cruelty and neglect reports and rescue animals in hording situations, covering more than 6800 square miles.
This year has been especially challenging, as we recovered and were able to save all but a few of the 120 cats suffering from mistreatment, malnutrition, and inbreeding at a household in Lavelle Township Minnesota.
We are a private, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society in our area. We are supported primarily by contributions, memberships, fundraising events, grants, and bequests; local governments provide less than 38% of our operating costs.
Our Programs and Services Include:
- Adoptions: on-site and mobile (off-site). Every animal that we adopt out has been spayed or neutered, is up-to-date on shots, and has been tested for health and behavior.
- Animal control and stray pet services throughout St Louis County.
- Animal cruelty and neglect investigations.
