My dog is the coolest because...
Cleo’s mom was surrendered to a kill shelter in Evansville when Cleo and her brother were in vitro. They survived and were adopted by a mom and twin sons in Bloomington. Mom
met a man who owned a cat. The dogs chased the cat, and when the man proposed to Mom, the bargain did not include the dogs. Needless to say, they married, so Cleo and her brother were dumped.
Thereafter, I adopted Cleo when she was 4. She will be 10 in December. She is smart, silly, sweet, kind, athletic and regal in an innate way. She loves to snuggle, go wading in the creek at Starkey Park, and take long walks on all the Zionsville trails. She watches for ducks from the forward hatch when we go sailing on Eagle Creek reservoir. And she revels in chasing squirrels and chipmunks with a passion.
Against the odds, Cleo exists as a gorgeous loving reminder that beauty, grace, and kindness can exist even in the most unlikely adverse and dire circumstances.
Cleo’s life shows that even in less than perfect situations, grace and kindness can emerge from even the most circumstances.
Be like Cleo. Rise above adversity to live in all the beauty and goodness that surrounds us in this very special community. Don’t let the judgment of others spoil your joy at simply being alive and running freely in the woods. Be like Cleo, a dog that odds makers would say should not have even survived. And yet, she is among us, running happily in dog parks, loving her life, chasing squirrels, and giving kisses to all whom she encounters.
