About Us

The Humane Society of the Lakes was first established in 1989 and was originally known as the Becker County Humane Society. It was conducted out of the Detroit Lakes Animal Hospital at their original location just off of Highway 10. The current building opened in 2007 along with a name change to the Humane Society of the Lakes. We are now able to house 25 dogs and 25 cats at maximum capacity.

The Humane Society of the Lakes operates a no kill shelter for animals in the Becker County Area. It is our mission to provide services for abandoned or unwanted animals while they await lifelong homes. Our vision is that all animals are treated with dignity and respect. We are a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter that relies solely on community support and donations.
