The Mississippi Animal Rescue League (MARL) is a leading nonprofit organization, chartered in 1969 and recognized as a 501(c)3 entity, devoted to combating animal cruelty. As Central Mississippi's foremost comprehensive animal welfare service provider, MARL tirelessly cares for countless homeless and neglected animals annually without any state or federal operating funds.
Our commitment extends beyond animal care. When you join hands with MARL – through donations, volunteering, or advocacy – you champion not just a wide range of animals, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, and burros, but also support the community we serve. We stand as the unwavering voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
MARL operates as an “open admission” shelter, welcoming every animal in need, in stark contrast to other “limited admission” shelters in the region. We are dedicated to rehoming all animals in our care, facing the challenges of animal overpopulation head-on. Despite accepting an average of 50-60 animals daily, with numbers rising in spring and summer, we strive to provide humane care and loving homes for each one. This commitment puts us at the frontline of addressing the difficult reality of more animals than available homes, a testament to our unwavering dedication to animal welfare.
