What qualities do you believe you have to be the People's Choice for Man of the Desert?
Let me start by introducing my self, I am Jonathan D. Herbert. Originally from the city of Angels, but I have made the Coachella Valley my home for the past ten years. I did leave briefly four years ago to attend graduate school at Cal State Northridge where I got my MPH, and quickly returned after. I am a registered nurse, a public health nurse, and nurse educator. My professional goal in life is to help the community in which I live through my nursing practice. Away from work, my dogs are my life, and I am so thrilled to return home to them when ever I leave the house. I believe that down time is precious and when I am not with my dogs I am either with my famIily or friends. My senior mother lives with me, and I am blessed to have her. Running is my outlet, and I run three times a week with my running buddies or the PS Front Runners.

Qualities I believe I have as a candidate for the People's Choice for Man of the Desert include, my work ethic. Both professionally and personally I believe in doing one's best, with everything. Giving it all you have got is important not only for the out come, but for the individual. Give it your best shot! With that I have had great wins, as well as great losses. It is the losses that I have learned the most from. It is the losses have helped me win, again. Another quality I believe is important both professionally and personally is one's brand. Many don't think of themselves as a brand, but we all have one. Believe in it. Own it. With this one always takes responsibility for their actions. To me it has served as a reminder. For instance, if I am a brand am I a good brand, a brand worth buying. Would I buy, Jonathan? Another important quality that comes to mind is educating and sharing what we know with others, and vis versa. This is how we learn. For example, in my work I believe strongly in others gaining knowledge regarding their health concerns, prevention, and having an awareness of current treatments available. I personally, just learned at the farmers market that dark honey in addition to being bold and distinctive in taste has more nutrients, and antioxidants. No wonder, I grave darker honey. Lastly, a quality I have always believed in is giving back. Over the years I have had various volunteer assignments. Some of which included alphabetizing and shelving books in the library, and running errands as a hospital volunteer and wheeling patients to various departments. I have also, helped clean up beaches, communities, served and prepare food, and just sat listening to people, and providing them with resources they may have not known about. Sadly, now a days my volunteer time consists of donating instead of serving. As a contestant, I am committed to both. Thank you.
