What qualities do you believe you have to be the People's Choice for Man of the Desert?
I believe my boyfriend has all of the qualities necessary to be chosen as People's Choice for Man of the Desert. Rolando came to the US when he was 22 years old. He worked two jobs, while going to school five days a week for four years to learn English at College of the Desert's ESL program. He started off working as a dishwasher and worked his way up to a waiter, once he became fluent in English. He has worked at LG's Prime Steakhouse for over 20 years as a waiter. While we were dating, Rolando decided to go back to school. He started at College of the Desert and last year he transferred to California State University San Bernardino Palm Desert Campus. Rolando will be graduating this year with his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. Rolando was able to do all of this while raising his three kids, Christian, 24, Brianna, 19 and Laysha 13, also while helping with my daughter Monique, 16 and we can't forget our doggie daughter, Oreo. Rolando has been the most amazing dad to our rescue dog Oreo. When we found her, she was living in our neighborhood and scrounging for food. These two have become inseparable ever since. She went from a homeless dog to having her own tempur-pedic dog bed and carseat. Rolando and I have been dating for the last nine years. It has become our mission to find ways to give back to our community. Rolando plans on going into law enforcement upon graduation, while I work as a nurse. We often look for ways to volunteer together in order to make our community a better place to live in. Rolando often volunteers at the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission with me and his youngest daughter, he volunteers at his school, and I often find him going around our community on his own and helping homeless by feeding them and providing them with clothes and personal supplies. As Rolando's girlfriend, I may be a little biases, however I believe is the definition of the ultimate success story and also a true humanitarian. He came here with nothing and has done things that some will never accomplish in their lifetime. Rolando goes out of his way to help people when no one is looking and without looking for any recognition. When I saw this contest, I thought it would be the perfect way to recognize him in our community! I hope that you will vote for him!
