Charlie ran free over the Rainbow Bridge a few days ago. He was a rescue, my "foster failure", 10 years ago. He had been picked up as a stray. Best guess at that time was that he was about 2 years old and a dachshund/ corgi mix. I knew from the moment he was dropped off at my home that he was special. He never learned any tricks. Never even learned to sit on command. He never had any interest in playing with toys. But he loved everyone and everyone who met him loved him. He loved his chew bones and chasing squirrels. Charlie watched over his chihuahua sister faithfully. He followed me wherever I went. Charlie was by my side through some really tough times in my life. He taught me to live in the moment, to love fully, and with everything within me. That's what matters most.
