Pet's Story or BioMax entered my life on New Year's Eve day, 2003. I visited WHS in Milwaukee to drop off an end of year donation, gathered from people who sent contributions to me in memory of my husband, who had passed earlier that year. Shortly after my husband's death, the two kitties we had adopted from the Humane Society more than 10 years earlier, died as well. For the first time in decades, I was the only critter stirring in my quiet house. When I visited WHS on Dec 31st, I took a stroll toward the kitty area. A volunteer was holding a beautiful black and white tuxedo'd tabby. He startled both of us when he leaped from her arms to mine- then licked my cheek. In that instant, I knew I'd be bringing him home. The adoption went through very quickly, and rather than spending NY's eve alone, I shared it with my new best friend, dressed for the occasion in his perfect-fit tuxedo. He brought so much joy and laughter to my house and my life, and I sincerely hope I was worthy of this sacred being who flew into my arms so many years ago.
