Hi, My name is Rachel. I have been involved in rescue for over a decade. I have fostered, transported, put together auctions, returned bottles from work, rallied, assisted in searches, trained….you name it! Me and Gus worked very hard on his Therapy Dog certification and I would love the title of Roc Top Pet for him. We want to raise awareness for mill dogs and the wonderful rescues like New2u that give them this chance. Plus, as a Wegmans employee it would be very cool to grab a 6 pack of “Gus” beer from Wegmans!

Gus would like to be Roc Top Pet for 2025. His given name is Freedom Run Blizzard which is ironic since he spent his first 5 years tied up at a mill, never enjoying true freedom. We are making up for that now !!!

When I adopted him in November 2023, he had never been inside a home and cried when I tried to walk him into mine. We worked really hard at building trust and learning to dog. It took a year before he slept in his own dog bed and learned what toys were. That’s why it was so special when he worked so hard and successfully passed his certification to become a Therapy Dog back in July. We recently visited our first hospice home and brought joy to an entire family at a very difficult time.

Gus would like this award to bring attention to New2u rescue and other rescues that save many dogs like him, aged out at mills. Without rescues their fate is uncertain. He’d really like to shut these mills down so no other dog has to lose time they could be spending running happily around a backyard 🐾
