Pet's Story
Ozzie is a handsome 6 year old Jack Russel Terrier. He is also the world's laziest JRT, as his favorite pastime is lounging around the house. He's a lovable furry lad who recently has gone from being King of the Castle to welcoming a host of new dog friends in to our home. In Ozzie's world, this means sharing food, bowls, toys, beds and affection with other dogs.
Through the efforts of my daughter Fay, our family recently began working with Safe Haven New York to assist in the rescue of dogs from kill shelters across the USA. We have fostered 3 dogs in the past 4 months.
At first, Ozzie wasn't sure what was happening. Laverne showed up as a timid little munchkin who was found on the streets of Texas. Within a few days, we found out she had been separated from her bonded friend, Shirley and so she was the next to move in. Ozzie, Laverne and Shirley enjoyed taking short walks together and dining side by side. There was literally no room on the couch as those 3 each took a cushion. Laverne and Shirley were adopted together by a lovely family.
Next Mary Kate (MK), an 8 week old puppy arrived. She was so thin when she first arrived, but she quickly began to gain weight and is one of the sweetest dogs. MK really pushed Ozzie to his lounging limits as she wanted to play non-stop. At first, Ozzie was a little grouchy about the intrusion but he quickly became a springboard for MK and they were soon inseparable. By the time she left for her forever home, MK was fully housebroken and knew how to sit, stay and lay down. MK was adopted last week, but I think Ozzie still sleeps with one eye open waiting for her to pounce.
It's been a wonderful experience for our family to foster these dogs as they wait for their forever home. Ozzie is a champ about the entire process, and while he may appear grouchy (look at the face he's making in his picture lol), his tail tells an entirely different story.
Don't tell him, but we will have a new friend coming next week.
Thanks!
Pet's Best Personality Trait
Patience is a virtue and Ozzie has demonstrated plenty of that over the past several months.
