Pet’s rescue story in 500 words or less
Jacob Marley was found in a heavily forested area of the Florida panhandle, wandering in circles, completely dehydrated, and about 60% underweight. Apparently, he had been purposely abandoned there for several months and left to die. Law enforcement turned him over to a local shelter that was way overcrowded and unable to give him the time, or emotional care he needed. They arranged transport to Brevard county where a rescue agreed to take him in. As soon as I saw his story and the state of his health, I filled out an adoption application and was accepted. My other two rescue pups welcomed him to our home and we have had seven years with him, helping him adjust to being safe and loved. Marley has brain damage from his severe dehydration which manifests in lack of impulse control and he often needs special understanding when he becomes agitated or overstimulated. He has a serious issue with storms stemming from being lost and alone in the elements during a crucial developmental time in his life. He was not a good candidate for a home with children, cats or other small critters. Nor could he be placed where there would be limited hands on time with his humans. It has been trying at times, he has had many challenges, but I wouldn’t change his story for anything. We have a “happily ever after” and that’s all that really matters! He is loved and safe and has even developed a very close bond with one of the house cats! That in itself is a major accomplishment and such a blessing for him❤️
