Pet’s rescue story in 500 words or less
What do you think about a soul as sweet as Jillian having been in 3 homes prior to landing at Touch of Grey? As I cobbled together her story I found it involved abandonment, survival on the street, untreated heartworm disease, likely mistreatment, and finally confiscation in a police case. It's why sometimes I wonder if I want the back story at all. It's why it is no wonder that when Wendy Johnson says 'we have a girl' who needs a very quiet home to decompress that you're not surprised that the girl hides behind your couch for close to 2 weeks. That as bad as it was she is still showing glimmers of hope, wanting to have a life, but is desperately unable to understand how to achieve that. Why it took the better part of 6 months to play with a toy, or let a man approach her, or ask for a pet by reaching out with her paw. It is the heartbreak and joy of rescue all in one package. It's why I became a foster failure, once again. I say once again because I met Wendy, and learned of the wonder that is Touch of Grey, when I was new to Florida, having moved here with my last senior rescue. She was 'deposited' at a local shelter in CT at the ripe old age of 13. I took her home as a hospice case and she basically gave the world the middle finger and lived to be 17. A week after losing that last girl, my love Chloe Rose... Jillian came to me. The universe knew we needed each other. Kismet to the nth degree. And so you see this girl before you now. Smiling, in her Christmas finery, on the beach she has come to love. In a home that will be forever. With doggie and human friends that will never fail her. I gave her a new middle name, Jillian 'Janus'. As it turns out she was born in January. January is derived from Janus, a Roman god who stood for new beginnings and transitions. What could be more perfect? Who can be more deserving of a new beginnng? The answer is they all are. But for now my girl is the one I'll focus on. Until the next one. Until there are no more. Oh what a wonderful world that will be! Thanks for your votes and your donations and your love.
