We were in love with Myrtle by the time we completed the three-hour drive home from Cookeville, where we adopted her in October 2023. With her "forever a puppy" size, her sweet little fat feet, and antics that made us laugh multiple times a day, there was no question we would do anything for this charming four-footed canine toddler. So when the sudden pursuit of a bird resulted in a sharp cry of pain, a serious back injury, and the threat of permanent paralysis, there was no question that if surgery would restore normal function, then surgery she would have. Now every time Myrtle scampers down the hall or across the yard, we smile, knowing with certainty that proceeding with her back surgery--and acquiring Myrtle herself--were among the best decisions we've ever made.
