Why is Your Pet "Rescued (or Stray) and Gorgeous"?
We lost our dog, whom we had for 13 years, in March of 2018. Our house was not the same without a dog. So, we started a search to adopt another dog and came upon the website for Home for Good Dog Rescue.
This remarkable rescue pulls dogs from high-kill shelters in the South and cares for them at their property in Aiken, SC. They then transport them to New Jersey, nurture them in foster families, and finally adopt them into loving homes.
Looking at their website, a dog name Penelope, a 3-year-old lab/blue heeler mix, caught our eye. Perhaps it was because she had one beautiful blue eye, and one deep brown eye.
Penelope, or Penny, had been picked up as a stray, placed in a high kill shelter in South Carolina, then pulled, restored to health, and transported to New Jersey. The journey was a bit stressful for Penny. By the time she arrived in NJ, she had broken a tooth trying to get out of her crate. We never put Penny in a crate again.
When we first met Penny, her foster mom brought her in, and she immediately licked my face. I needed that! I had just gotten over breast cancer and she warmed my heart. I knew she was meant to be our dog.
We have had Penny for 6 years now and she has been a blessing to my husband and me. She loves people, loves taking a walk, loved our cat that passed away last year.
My daughter, Theresa, wrote, "Penny is the light of my mother’s life, and that makes me so happy. She’s the sweetest, happiest, friendly girl, who has been spoiled since the day she went home, and it’s exactly how she deserves to be treated."
The look in her photo is what we see whenever we come in the kitchen door. It is a look that says, "I love you so much. I'm glad I'm in your home forever."
