Why is Your Pet "Rescued (or Stray) and Gorgeous"?
Bruno is a true battle-worn warrior hero. For the first 6 months of his life in Houston, he was left in the woods on a chain where he was beaten and abused. Thankfully, we were able to rescue him and bring him into a loving home with a big brother.
At first Bruno didn’t bark, wasn't able to walk up or down stairs, and wasn’t leash-trained. Over time, after many hours of showering him with love and affection, we helped him navigate the staircases. As weeks of care and attention turned into months, Bruno began to bark and smile!
His increased comfort and happiness have also become apparent in his actions. Bruno loves to swim in the family pool, run full-speed laps around the perimeter of the yard (like a racehorse), and rip apart his (and Duke’s) stuffy toys, burying himself in the white stuffing, which gets stuck all over his face, and he dons a huge smile, as if he conquered the world.
One of the most important parts of Bruno’s story is his relationship with his big brother, Duke, whom he adores. Before Bruno joined our family, Duke was lethargic and he’d cry when we left the house. Now that we have Bruno, Duke has come alive, and the two keep each other company, entertained, and playful. Duke occasionally assumes the Rottweiler superior attitude with the talking and low growling, but Bruno just flops along, always smiling as if he doesn’t have a care in the world.
Despite Bruno’s heartbreaking beginnings, he wears his battle wounds well (including deep scars on his head, hind legs, and chin). He maintains such a happy demeanor, even when we dress him in hats, sunglasses, or pajamas. His shiny black coat makes him very majestic looking, yet he also lights up our lives with his silliness and toothy grin. Silly or sleek, Bruno is always gorgeous, and he will always be loved.
