About

Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue, TBBR, is more than just a rescue organization; we are a lifeline for beagles and beagle mixes in need.  As a dedicated all-volunteer rescue organization, we commit ourselves to rehabilitating beagles and beagle mixes that come from situations of neglect, abandonment, and mistreatment.  Our mission goes beyond the act of rescue — we are committed to providing these adorable hounds a second chance at life and love.

Foster-Based Care
Our beagles aren't just numbers – they're family. Housed in the loving embrace of our dedicated foster homes, each beagle experiences the warmth of a nurturing environment. Here, they can shed the weight of their past, learn to trust again, and most importantly, feel truly at home.

Medical Care
We stand by every beagle that comes our way, ensuring they receive both preventative and essential medical care. From the young to the elderly, the injured to the neglected, our promise is unwavering: to bring them back to health, happiness, and a life full of joyful howls and curious sniffs.

Rehabilitation
It breaks our hearts to witness beagles who have suffered from abuse or severe neglect. Our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to rehabilitate these fragile souls, teaching them to trust and love again, one gentle touch at a time.

Thoughtful Adoption
Adoption, for us, is more than just finding a home – it's about finding the *right* home. Our meticulous adoption process ensures that each beagle, especially our seniors beagles and those with special needs or medical conditions, finds a family that cherishes them, understands them, and provides them with the love and care they so richly deserve.

Our Mission Statement

Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based, 501(c)(3), non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of abused, neglected and at-risk beagles and beagle mixes. We endeavor to reduce pet overpopulation by educating the public and spaying/neutering all of our dogs prior to adoption. We are a continuing source of information to the community on the behavior and special qualities of the beagle breed.

Purpose
  • To rescue abandoned, abused, neglected and at-risk beagles and beagle mixes.
  • To rehabilitate and care for the beagles until they can be adopted into permanent, loving homes.
  • To help beagle owners understand how to train and care for a rescued dog and to prevent common behavior problems.
  • To reduce pet overpopulation through education and by spaying/neutering all dogs prior to adoption.

History

In 1999,  TBBR began as a simple effort when Betty Roberts, the founder and former president, helped a single beagle in need. Over the next few years, she began to help re-home stray and abandoned beagles with the help of one or two volunteers. In 2003, a group of volunteers made a commitment to save beagles and organized the Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue Inc. into a nonprofit organization.

With the amazing support from our volunteers and the community, we grew the number of adoptions from 54 beagles in 2003 to over 220 beagles in 2022.  Our volunteers and foster families are located throughout the State of Florida, and our beagles have been adopted by families all around Florida. We are continually striving to help more beagles, but we need the help of dedicated volunteers and foster homes to accomplish our goals!
