PALS Mission
It is the mission of Pets Are Loving Support, Inc., (PALS) – an Atlanta-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization – to provide ongoing care and support to pets of low-income Atlanta area friends and neighbors who are over the age of 65 or living with a critical illness or disability. With this help, owners can keep their service animal or companion pet fed and healthy.
How PALS Started
PALS was founded in 1990 by two Atlanta businesswomen, Dr. Susan Wynn, a veterinarian, and Dr. Margaret Schulte, an educator. While volunteering at the DeKalb Humane Society they discovered a shared commitment to working with people diagnosed with AIDS. When they learned an AIDS patient was sharing his single daily meal and foregoing medical care to provide for his cat, they decided this needed to be addressed. They began collecting pet food to deliver to AIDS patients. As PALS grew, vaccinations and prevention medications were added to expand our support to pets and their owners.
How PALS Helps
PALS broad outreach has provided care to 3,500 pet companions serving more than 2,000 clients. PALS provides pet food and basic veterinary care including annual vaccinations, flea and tick control, and heartworm testing and prevention.
