Your pet's story or fun facts about your pet
We live on some land in SE Hillsborough County and have rescued feral cats for some years. We take the ones not suitable for house cats or lap kitties and get them spayed/neutered, provide them with healthcare, food, shelter and whatever amount of love they are comfortable receiving. A couple of years ago, they started disappearing and after installing cameras, we found a coyote had moved in. Enter Ursi and Emmy! They are Maremma Sheepdogs and are livestock guardian dogs. While most LGDs protect chickens, sheep or goats, these girls are charged with keeping their feral cats safe from predators! We have had zero casualties in the 18 months since they arrived to do their job and we are grateful. The oldest, Ursi, was bred from a disreputable breeder and has horrific hip issues already which necessitated a working partner...Emmy. They love each other as siblings should and be assured, that Ursi will get her "magic legs" as soon as she is fully grown and qualified for hip surgery!
