In July of 2019, we adopted an 11 month old cat from the Montreal SPCA and named him Riku, meaning clever tiger. As a volunteer there working with cats, I had heard of the 3 small siblings who had been abandoned overnight outside the SPCA in a box completely sealed shut.

When I visited his cage, his siblings had already been adopted and he was just waiting for his chance! He was sick with feline rhinovirus, but his soft sad cries and desperate attempts to roll out of his cage and onto my lap absolutely won my heart.

He’s a handsome tabby cat with some suspected bengal in him because of his strong personality, mischievousness, vocalizing, rabbit soft fur and his mixed spots and stripes. He certainly lives up to his name!

We were looking for a companion after I developed health issues and had to stop working. While he did (and still does) help keep me going, in the end, we were the ones to became his emotional support people after we discovered how anxious he was. Despite that, his love for his people and his exuberance for life know no bounds!
