A little about my entry...
Valerie, a black lab mix, poses on a tree log with her front paws, with a drooly smile on her face. She knows a treat is waiting for her. She's well-trained, and she loves to work almost as much as she loves to explore dog-friendly parks & trails. Luckily, Sonoma County has an abundance of beautiful locations she can explore with her human, Juliet. Juliet is recovering from several severe injuries sustained in a fall last year. Luckily, her best friend, sweet and loveable (not to mention...energetic) young Valerie, gives her the motivation she needs to get up and out of the house every day. She keeps her going not only physically, but also emotionally. They've found true community amongst other dog-owners & park-goers here in Santa Rosa. Valerie meets up with her other doggy friends several times a week to romp, sniff, play and adventure. At home, Valerie did something amazing - she taught herself how to do an anxiety interruption (which people spend months or even years training dogs to learn). Whenever her human cries, becomes overwhelmed or upset, Valerie pops up and heads over to nudge her hands, lick the tears off her face, lay across her with calming deep pressure, and give her a reason to carry on another day.
