Our Mission
Shiba Prom is an all-volunteer*, 501(c)3 organization of Shiba Inu owners and enthusiasts formed for charitable purposes. Our mission is to end unnecessary suffering of Shiba Inus and Shiba Inu mixes abandoned, neglected, and/or denied adequate medical care due to lack of funding.
There are a variety of reasons why Shiba Inus end up in animal shelters. Some are lost. Others are abandoned. Some are released or surrendered to rescue. All of these Shiba Inus need help, and thanks to shiba rescue organizations, these dogs have a chance at a new life in a loving forever home. Every shiba that is rescued requires food, toys and beds. They often need veterinary care, surgeries and medication. The costs associated with each rescue can range from several hundred to a several thousand dollars.
How We Operate
Shiba Prom is dedicated to "Shibas Helping Shibas: Having Fun Raising Funds!" Our passionate goal is to support other charitable organizations involved in the rescue of Shiba Inus and Shiba-mixes by distributing funds (up to $500 per grant award) for care of rescued Shiba Inus, creating greater awareness and understanding of the Shiba Inu breed, and harnessing the power of social media to inspire, promote and lead creative fundraising events that benefit Shiba Inus and Shiba Inu mixes in need of permanent homes and/or medical care.
The Event
The Shiba Prom was created as a virtual way for online shibas, their pawrents, friends, and shiba enthusiasts to do what they do best: have fun and make friends with other shibas and shiba-lovers worldwide! Honorary Shibas, Shiba Prom "Chaperones" (a.k.a. Shiba Inu admirers who don't currently own a shiba), and our Kitty furiends are welcome to participate as well!
Shiba Prom is an online, virtual, fundraising event - now in its 5th year! On the day of the big event (October 1, 2016) Shibas, honorary Shibas, meowies that love Shibas and hoomans from all over the world join together to fundraise for Shiba rescues. Last year we raised over $17,000! Let your imagination run wild with that one – what can we do this year? The whole prom takes place online on a members-only website.
But - what really happens at the prom? There is music, and we have DJs, a fast moving group chat room (a/k/a "dance floor), contests, prizes and overall creative fun. Leading up to the Prom, we will have a donation drive during the month of October. Along with this photo contest, we also have a raffle (check it out at:
