Ten-year-old Buko came into our lives as an 8-week-old because it was my wife’s dream to have a pug. She passed away before Buko turned one. He’s helped raise over a million dollars over the years for AIDS and HIV services as the mascot of Team Edna, a group of cyclists that honor my wife’s memory on AIDS/LifeCycle, a fundraising bike ride that travels from San Francisco to Los Angeles benefitting the SF AIDS Foundation and the LA Gay and Lesbian Center. Buko is my constant companion who has helped me through grief and depression, bringing me comfort and companionship. He brings joy to my coworkers in the office and to nearly everyone he meets.
