Pet's Story or Bio
Hero was 11 yrs old when his mom, Jan McCusker passed away from cancer. She rescued Hero at 1 year old and this pampered and beloved boy was her life. Jan even ran a rescue named Hero's Friends in honor of her dog that saved 100s of dogs at the shelters. Hero then joined his new family with a SCGRRescue volunteer along with a brother and sister Golden Retriever and has adapted well. Jan was a huge supporter of Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue, Homeward Bound, several senior dog rescues and many animal rights organizations. Hero never became friends with gardeners, mail carriers, or delivery men but he is a loving senior boy seeking affection from everybody else. Hero gave comfort to his mom to the very end laying beside her bed at the hospital. In this picture, Hero pays tribute to Jan at her memorial in the Hollywood Hills at one of their favorite hiking spots.
