About

Our nonprofit organization, St. Clair County Animal Welfare Advocates (SCCAWA), has blossomed in our area! Our mission is to turn St. Clair County Animal Control into a No Kill facility by 2021! Our life-saving work has already been realized with the signing of the No-Kill Resolution by the County board on Dec 19, 2016 and Community Cat Ordinances passed in St. Clair County and Belleville in early 2017. Additionally, our work resulted in the implementation of a Return to Field Program, now being utilized at Animal Control. This program sterilizes free-roaming cats brought into the facility, ear-tips, vaccinates and microchips them, and returns them to their colonies to live out their lives instead of killing them.

In 2017, SCCAWA provided vaccine for approximately 1200 dogs and puppies, preventing contagious disease outbreaks at the shelter. Animals come to Animal Control by no fault of their own. We believe they should all have a second chance to find their happily-ever-after!

Our current endeavor is funding vaccinations for dogs and cats at St. Clair County Animal Control for approximately 2500 animals in 2018. Vaccinations can prevent the spread of deadly diseases and set the animals on the path of good health. We are working diligently to ensure all animals (age appropriate and healthy) are vaccinated upon intake.
