Polly and Fifi
Pet's Story
Apologies for the late entry!
The calico in this photo, six-year-old Fifi, is a very special animal: Saving Grace Animal Rescue saved her from potential euthanization after a prior owner surrendered her to San Francisco Animal Care and Control due to a wee (sorry for the bad pun) bit of incontinence that veterinarians and animal behaviorists had theorized was biological rather than psychological.
Fifi is missing her right hind limb yet she can outrun quadrupeds with the grace of a balerina. Even the veterinarians and support staff at San Francisco Animal Hospital have marveled at her unusual gracefulness for a three-legged cat. Contrasting the typical pogo movements of pets with only one hind leg, Fifi sashays the way a dancer might. She is extremely agile and strong, capable of climing to the top of the wall shelves in our household. As is typical of any tripod animal her forelegs are very muscular, especially her left forearm.
The white cat, Polly, joined my household in August, after being fostered in a home that includes another Saving Grace alumna, KangaRoo. Polly was rescued by Toni's Kitten Rescue earlier this year, and she's grown so fast it's really hard to believe she was only born in May of this year. It could be due to the fact that she really loves to eat -- including trying to scarf down Fifi's food. I'm working on parceling that out a little better.
