About Us

Ruff Start Rescue is a foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to saving the lives of animals in need.  We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs, cats, and critters such as ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and more. We primarily serve communties throughout the state of Minnesota, as well as states in the south and South Dakota with severe pet overpopulation. Ruff Start improves animal welfare in communities through adoption, education, and providing resources for people and pets. Most of our work is accomplished by a complex network of volunteers, fosters, and supporters, all of whom come together to save thousands of animals each year. Since our inception in 2010, Ruff Start has saved over 20,000 animals!
