After our second Labrador rescue, Ranger—who came to us through the fantastic organization Save a Lab—passed at 14, we didn’t hesitate to contact them again. Our first Lab, Meko, was black, and Ranger was yellow, so the natural progression was chocolate.

As fate would have it, while browsing rescue sites, we came across a thin, malnourished chocolate Lab named Emma. The post disappeared shortly after, so we reached out to the organization to see what had happened. They told us the response to Emma was so overwhelming that they had to take it down. Without hesitation, we submitted our application to be the first in line to meet her—and it was love at first sight.

At the meet-and-greet, we spoke with her foster family and decided to bring her home. The foster was happy for us but shared a secret they had been keeping: since we had already been scheduled to meet Emma, they couldn’t cancel, but they had decided that if we didn’t take her that day, they would. As we left, the male foster was visibly emotional, with tears in his eyes.

Nevertheless, she is ours now, and what an incredible girl she is! As you can see, she’s a beautiful Lab mix—with what I’m certain is some kind of Pointer in her for sure.
