About
Established in February 1998, the Portrait Society of America is a 501(c)3 registered charity, formed as an educational organization dedicated to furthering the traditions of fine art portraiture and figurative art through programs and publications.
The Portrait Society is committed to providing educational resources to anyone interested in technical information, traditional aesthetics and the history of figurative art and portraiture.
We offer complimentary copies of The Art of the Portrait Journal and International Artist Magazine to all of our members. Additionally, we contribute articles to American Art Collector Magazine on topics related to portraiture and figurative art today.
We host a number of educational programs per year including the annual The Art of the Portrait conference where over 800 artists gather annually to celebrate and share a passion for the portrait and figure.
Other annual competitions sponsored by the Portrait Society of America include The International Portrait Competition, which is home to the Draper Grand Prize, the Members Only Competition, and The Future Generation competition for young artists ages 18-25.
