Pet’s rescue story in 500 words or less
Hello! My name is Hugo Stiglitz and I’m not sure how old I am – my mom thinks I’m about 10-12. She adopted me five years ago after a wildfire destroyed my town called Paradise in Northern California. I was found in a walnut orchard by some nice people who took me to the pound, boy I was starving! I don’t like walnuts!! The nice people at the pound treated me very nice and tried to find my owners, but I think due to the fire and so much trauma that I might have been the least of their worries. Well, as you can imagine my time came up at the pound, but thankfully some nice person there decided I was worth saving and called a rescue to see if they might like to help me out. The lady from the rescue came and looked in my eyes and said to herself “I knew that someone would want this sweet, little tan Chihuahua for their very own best friend
even though they are a dime a dozen in California!” I stayed at the rescue for about a month, they cleaned my teeth, neutered me (ouch) and gave me a microchip. They also learned that I had a heart murmur so they made sure I got an appointment with the doggy cardiologist to make sure I was a OK for Adoption. One day a nice lady came along and took me on a walk – I liked her a lot so I sat on her lap and let her pet me, I thought she was pretty cool and I liked her car so I figured I would let her take me home, so I could try it out and see what I thought. She also brought me a brand, new harness and leash and some puffy jackets, because it was winter and kind of cold – she even brought me a cushy bed for the ride home in the car. Things were going great until it started to rain, and my mom turned on the windshield wipers – she quickly discovered that I am terrified of windshield wipers and I barked and cried until she turned them off. She waited until it stopped raining to continue the trip to her house, I thought that was another nice gesture, and that made me like her even more, I still don’t like windshield wipers, and even though I have been across the country in a car four times with my mom she always make sure that I don’t have to see windshield wipers, which is the only thing in the world I’m afraid of!

A few years ago, my mom decided we would move to Florida and we both love it so much!! We walk every day and I only have to wear my puffy jacket when it’s really really cold, I sleep in bed with my mom, but sometimes I decide to go under the bed to sleep because she has lots of comfy blankets under there for me . We are best friends and I am so happy that we found each other. I’m sorry it took a wildfire, but sometimes good things can come from something terrible. My mom loves dogs and would like to have many many more but I am getting on in years and I think , she has decided that I would be better off as an only dog.

Good luck to all the dogs at Touch of Grey. I hope they get as lucky as me! Sincerely, Hugo, Stiglitz.
