Wally came to live with me when he was about 4. He had survived a forest fire in CA and become a companion/service dog for my neighbor who was very ill. I gladly fostered him when my neighbor moved to a medical facility and this little guy had to become accustomed to eating regular, boring dog food instead of sharing a plate of steak with his friend. He is ridiculous, but wonderful -- and took easily to running the sand at Dash Point Beach, making himself at home in various waterfront cottages and chasing birds back into the sea. Later, Wally had to get used to living with me in a senior apartment complex in Olympia. He loves to socialize with the other elderly folk here, and will sit for treats and scratches. He knows when I am needing to monitor my blood sugar or bp. He insists that I walk at least twice a day. So, he continues in Service Dog fashion. Still very disdainful of broccoli, but I don't force the issue.
