Every pet entry will appear in and receive a copy of AWLA's 2019 calendar.
Grand Prize*
The Grand Prize will be awarded based on total votes received. The pet entry that receives the most votes at the close of competition on June 30, 2018, at 8 p.m. will be recognized as Alexandria's 2019 Animal of the Year, and will
- JUST ANNOUNCED: Our grand prize winner will have their photo featured on buses across Northern Virginia throughout the month of December!
- Grace the front and back covers of the popular AWLA annual photo calendar, as well as receiving 10 complimentary copies.
- Receive a professional pet photography session for the cover photo with one of our talented pet photographers (read more below) at a to-be-determined location. Cover photos will be selected by the AWLA from the results of this photo session; submitted contest photo will appear on the back cover of the calendar alongside a professional photo of the owner(s).
- Receive one 8 x 10 and two 5 x 7 complimentary prints (with an option to purchase more photos or products offered by the photographer), and two mugs with chosen cover photo honoring their Pet of the Year status.
- Have their calendar cover receive a spot-of-honor in the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter for the upcoming year.
- Receive year-round invitations to AWLA events as Alexandria's 2019 Animal of the Year.
- Be featured on the AlexandriaAnimals.org home page throughout 2019.
- Have their pet photos be part of AWLA's First Night Celebration with UpCycle at the Torpedo Factory, to serve as the basis of drawings and other artwork crafter by our youth attendees.
- An AWLA "swag bag" of goodies for the pet(s) and owner(s).

The next six top vote recipients will receive
- A 20-minute photography mini-session with a participating AWLA pet photographer (read more below). Calendar photos will be selected by the AWLA from the results of these photo sessions. The photo submitted as part of the animal's entry will not be included.
- A full-page photo of the pet in the "2019 Pets in the City Calendar."
- One complimentary 5x7 print, with an option to purchase more photos or products offered by the photographer.
- Featured time on AlexandriaAnimals.org home page, Facebook header, and Twitter header for two weeks of their corresponding calendar month.
- Five copies of the calendar
- An AWLA "swag bag" of goodies for the pet(s) and owner(s).

th-highest vote tallies will receive a quarter-page photo placement on one calendar page. Their photos will also be featured on the
AlexandriaAnimals.org home page and the video screen in the AWLA lobby for the corresponding calendar month, and the AWLA Facebook header and Twitter header for two weeks of that month.

Everyone is a winner when you participate in the 2019 "Pets in the City" photo calendar contest. All entrants
- Will be in the calendar! We are excited to share all of Alexandria's Animals across the upcoming year.
- Will receive a free calendar and an invitation to our calendar unveiling party at our 2018 Howl-O-Ween event.
- Will get the wonderful feeling of helping to make Alexandria an even better home for animals!
Category Winners
The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is an open-door facility and provides care for a wide variety of animals. We would like to see as many types of animals as possible entered in the photo calendar contest. The top two animals in each category will have their photo included in a special "Pets in the City" edition of Alexandria's Animals trading cards.
