Pets Helping People (PHP) - Our Story
- We provide pet therapy training for compassionate dog owners and their big hearted dogs to go into the community and spread the love.
- We believe that dogs can be a remarkable source of companionship, inspiration and motivation -- and can play an important role in promoting health, healing, socialization and learning.
- We are a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization.
Since 1998, we've trained more than 800 pet therapy handler/pet teams. Our classes are held at the Congregational Home in Brookfield, Wisconsin. We continue to assess potential teams and train new teams each month. The handler/pet teams benefit from Pets Helping People's ongoing support in finding just the right placement for their pet therapy visits.
PHP partners with organizations and facility directors who care to do more for the people they serve. We work with children, seniors, veterans, women's shelters, AODA agencies, hospitals, rehab centers, memory care communities and so many more. Our partners believe, as we do, in the healing power of a cold nose and a wagging tail.
It's a wonderful mission that recognizes the value of the interaction of people and animals, and acknowledges how animals can bring a sense of calm, love, attention and an immeasurable bond. Working together, we create joy and inspiration for the more than 8,000 people we reach annually in the Southeastern section of Wisconsin through our group therapy events and activities, and our teams independent pet therapy visits.
