About

Our Mission and Vision
Founded in 1952, Pet Haven is proud to be Minnesota's oldest foster-based animal rescue. Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts; and providing resources to people to help strengthen the animal-human bond.

Our vision is a Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to work and volunteer.

How We Help

What We Do
We help Minnesota dogs and cats who are at risk of entering into a shelter or at risk of euthanasia due to behavior, health or overcrowding  find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat is placed with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

We also help owners in crisis who need surrender services have a safe place for their pets to land. Knowing their family member is in a home and not a shelter is life-changing for both the owner and the pet.

We also help our Minnesota Tribal Nations through our long standing partnerships to provide a safe place for community members to surrender to through our work with Leech Lake Legacy.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal's temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and medical needs. We give them the time they need to be the best family member they can be. With this first-hand information, we can find the right family for each dog and cat and the right dog and cat for each family.

Our volunteers help to bring awareness to the public on responsible companion animal care, and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we're working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their family, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

  • We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
  • We provide all age appropreiate vaccinations prior to adoption
  • We microchip all our Pet Haven pets, register the adopter, and remain a secondary contact so no Pet Haven pet will ever enter into the sheltering system.
  • We test for Heartworm and Lymes disease in all our dogs and are transparent with adopters about the results and treatment.
  • We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent with adopters about the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
  • We do not euthanize animals unless they have an untreatable health or behavioral condition that denies them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
  • We are locally focused on helping those pets that need us most in Minnesota
  • We answer the phone and provide as much support to people and pets as we can.
  • We love what we do!
