WOW! Because of you, we surpassed our goal!
On behalf of the Portage Park District Foundation and the Madonio Family Animal Welfare Trust, THANK YOU for your generous support and enthusiasm for the PERFECT POOCH OF PORTAGE contest. We so enjoyed watching the competition and following all the dogs. We can, without a doubt, attest to the fact that all the dogs entered in the contest are PERFECT POOCHES! We will be in contact with the owners of the winning dogs to coordinate prizes and photos.
We're having a POOCH PARTYPALOOZA (open to the public and to the pooches) on May 11, 2019 from Noon to 2:00 p.m. at Towner's Woods. Contestant owners will get a complimentary beer/beverage and some other free give-aways. So we hope that the pooches, pooch parents, and pooch patrons will join us for a little celebration. All proceeds from the party will be equally shared with the Portage Park District Foundation and the Madonio Family Animal Welfare Trust.
We want to thank our brew sponsor—Thirsty Dog Brewing Company--for their generous donations and support. We also want to thank our other sponsors: Treno Ristorante, Portage Community Bank, Brimfield Insurance Group, and Nelson and Suzanne Burns.
The dollars raised through this campaign will be dedicated to a trail development fund for the Portage Park District Foundation and to support animal welfare for the Madonio Family Animal Welfare Trust.
Through your awesome participation, we have proven that Portage County does indeed hold the record for having the PERFECT POOCHES in the entire universe.
GREAT JOB! THANKS TO ALL!
About Us
Our mission? Tails and Trails!
This contest is jointly run through a partnership between the Portage Park District Foundation and the Madonio Family Animal Welfare Trust. Two great causes and one fundraiser. We both see the link between "tails and trails" and are pleased to work together to help both our organizations
How this contest benefits tails:
The Madonio Family Animal Welfare Trust (MFAWT) was established in 2013 with the single goal of promoting animal causes in our communities. An endowed fund of the Portage Foundation, this non-profit organization has grown by leaps and bounds, particularly after the introduction of the annual Dog Days of Summer fundraising festival which began in 2015. The MFAWT proceeds support many local animal groups, including the Portage APL (including their low-income community cat spay and neuter program), Rose's Rescue and Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary. Through the Family & Community Services Paws in Motion program MFAWT provides 1,800 lbs. of dry food and 1,500 cans per year to pets of folks who receive Meals in Motion. In conjunction with local veterinarians they also support the care of less fortunate pets who require emergency services. (

How this contest benefits trails:
Where can you walk with your best friend year-round while enjoying the beauty of nature? Where can you experience interesting sights, sounds, smells and… squirrels? On Portage Park District Trails, of course! Portage Park District manages over 25 miles of hiking trails across the county where you can walk your leashed dog any time of the year to get the fresh air and exercise you both need. The Park District has some exciting plans to open more parks and develop more trails, so the Portage Park District Foundation wants to establish a trail fund to help provide more places for you and your furry friends. Developing and maintaining trails is expensive. The Portage Park District Foundation believes that generating funds dedicated to trail development will help the Portage Park District open more lands making our parks more accessible to people and their dogs.
