Friends of Paws in Prison is the 501(c)3 nonprofit set up to support the Paws in Prison program located in the Coleman Unit, an all women's prison located in Lockhart, Texas. Through the Paws in Prison program, the inmates learn to train and care for dogs rescued from rural kill shelters, who are then available for adoption in "furever" families.
This amazing program works with a 6-way mission to:
- Rehabilitate Female Prisoners
- Save Shelter Dogs from Euthanasia
- Train a dog with basic obedience skills for Adoption into Loving Families
- Provide Communities with Productive Members of Society with Employment Skills in the Animal Welfare Industry
- Train service dogs at no charge to our military veterans to receive a caring canine companion
- Provide educational scholarships to inmates to further their animal welfare training
