Sprocket is a domestic Roller pigeon. Breeders have taken a mutation (that caused some pigeons to roll backwards when they try to fly) and exaggerated its effect through selective breeding. These birds do not “want” to roll on the ground; they were born to fly, not tumble on the ground. Sprocket was lucky. She was found grounded and taken in by a couple of good Samaritans who got her to Palomacy. She is married to Abby, a racing survivor found in a local backyard. Though Sprocket doesn’t lay eggs, her foster mom gives her feggs regularly, which she sits on with great pride, as she is doing in this photo.
