If I live to be 100, I’ll never meet a more loving creature than 13-year-old Pomme de Terre. I first spotted Pomme wandering around a train station dehydrated, starving, and narrowly dodging buses and cars. I soon learned (from the bands on her legs) that she was a domestic bird and victim of pigeon racing. Scared at first, Pomme has transformed into a total softy who'd like nothing more than for me to make holding her my full-time job. Choosing to keep her was one of my best decisions ever.
