Balthazar came to me in rough shape. At one point he had suffered a terrible trauma - his keel had been so badly broken that it healed misaligned, and his beak was also broken and healed crooked. His cere (the giant mass on his nose we call The Brain), had never been cleaned and hardened gunk was blocking his nostrils. Balthazar is old man English Carrier and it is normal for him to have a large cere. He now spends his days sunbathing in awkward positions and preening his wife Esmé, from whom he is inseparable.
