Gunny has NMAR to thank for escaping death row 8 years ago. Due to the extent of his horrific injuries...suspected to be from life as a "Bait Dog" in a dog fighting ring...his only option was for a rescue group to step up and take him on. Step up NMAR did, through the multiple surgeries Gunny needed to survive, including a leg amputation. Gunny has paid it forward again and again. Many elementary school students have learned of compassion and volunteerism through Gunny's story and visits. He has his own children's book, written to reach children and plant seeds of change regarding animal rescue and abuse. Gunny has been an excellent foster friend to dogs in need, and is a complete gentleman with all animals. His story has won him several honors across the country, which came complete with wonderful prizes donated to NMAR…his way of saying thanks.
