NICU Hospital for my journeySt. David’s Medical Center
My NICU Graduate's JourneyHuey was born at 32w5d with a full head of hair and at a whopping 6lbs. He spent 21 days in the NICU, cared for by the most incredible nurses. Huey needed a feeding tube for the duration of his stay, as well as some CPAP help his first 2 days and an IV to regulate blood sugar for the first week.
He was a champ right from the start. He made big strides every day. We loved coming in every morning to hear how his night was and to see the progress he made. He didn’t make things too difficult for his nurses and only pulled his tube out once!
As new parents, we were overwhelmed with having a new baby and him being in the NICU. But the staff and nurses made us feel so comfortable (as comfortable as you can be in a hospital). Although I would not want to repeat it, I’m happy that Huey’s first 3 weeks were spent in such a safe and caring environment and he was able to grow and develop under the supervision of professionals.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? He took it all like a champ! He never really cried while in the NICU, despite all the poking and prodding. And he really made huge progress every day.
And now he is the light of our lives and fills our day with laughter and mischief. He is a happy, funny, curious 10 month old who loves his grandparents, his dog, and avocados. We could not be more proud.
