NICU Hospital for my journeyMonmouth Medical Center
My NICU Graduate's JourneyLuna was born at 26 weeks and 3 days weighing just about 2 pounds. When she was born, she let out such a strong cry, which we were not expecting because the doctors told us it was normal for babies that small to not cry. From that moment, we knew she was a fighter. Luna had a fairly easy and uneventful NICU stay, which we were very grateful for. She went right on to CPAP, her brain looked okay, her heart looked okay besides a small PDA, but her lungs needed lots of maturing. We were told that she would most likely have to come home on oxygen, but she had other plans. Luna spent 10 weeks on CPAP and 3 weeks on low flow oxygen before getting her last room air trial at 39 weeks and she never looked back. We were all caught by surprise. The NICU was one of the most difficult experiences we had to go through, but the amazing staff at the hospital made it a little more bearable. They would tell us every day that she was a feisty girl, which was very true. Luna spent 93 days in the hospital and we got to come home two days before our original due date.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate?Luna is very resilient and she’s our little miracle. We are so proud of how hard she fought to grow and get better. She put in her all.
