NICU Hospital for my journeyBaylor University Medical Center
My NICU Graduate's JourneyOur daughter was born full term, but aspirated meconium during a long delivery causing damage to her lungs. It was very unexpected and scary but after some ups and downs, she healed remarkably. She was in the NICU for a week (half the time they thought she would be!) but it felt like forever. She had incredible care from wonderful NICU nurses, but it was still so difficult to be separated from her at the beginning of her life and miss all of her “firsts”.
What makes you proud of you NICU graduate? We discovered our little one was quite a fighter! Even when she was supposed to be resting and healing, she was not content with this, and was like a little Houdini trying to escape her CPAP mask or pull out her feeding tube! If we learned anything about Alexandra during this journey, it is that where there is her will, there is a way. We watched her with so much pride as she fought to heal, and had it not been for this experience, we wouldn’t have known the true power in our daughter.
